Reflections of Our Savior

May 2015

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One.' Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. [Acts 4:25-29]

Dear fellow Christians:

Be bold. Yes, be bold! You need not be afraid as you speak of your faith, as you defend the teachings of your church, as you defend the word of God. You need not worry that the forces of anti-Biblical ideas, philosophies, and teachings will overcome the Lord’s own Word.

Why? That is an easy answer. We have just been reminded of why we need not be afraid of the world around us as it conspires against the faith that we hold. The answer is this: “Christ is risen. He is risen indeed.”

Please consider the full force of that assurance. OUR LORD IS ALIVE AND WELL! (All caps intended so you feel the full force of those words.)  Our Lord is alive and well!

All too often I see Christians and the Christian church cower under the threat of others who say things about the church and what we believe—things that twist and distort the Bible teachings, or even things that are untrue.

But these threats, distortions, and lies are no threat to us, or to our Savior. He is alive!

The Lord’s Word, the Bible, teaches what we need to know about human nature--about our nature. Based upon the teachings of God’s word, we stand up at church at the beginning of every service and confess our sinfulness and need for a savior. And we are assured that our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake. We trust boldly that his perfect life and innocent suffering and death and glorious resurrection are proof positive of God’s love for all mankind—for you. In love, we want everyone to have that same assurance of forgiveness and eternal life.

So be bold. Speak the truth in love. Be forgiven and bring forgiveness. Tell others who ask what you believe so they have that assurance that their sins are forgiven, too.

Those who conspire against the Lord, his word, and his church cannot kill him again. He is alive and he lives and rules eternally. AMEN.
